Monkeypox Disease – a Health Crisis

Monkeypox is a viral zoonosis (infections transmitted from animals to humans), caused by a virus from the same family as smallpox. Monkeypox had been most common in Central and West Africa, close to tropical rainforests, though it was also seen in other countries on a small scale. In May 2022, health officials began reporting an outbreak of the monkeypox in locations outside of Africa.
