COVID-19

COVID-19 has spread rapidly since the emergence of Omicron variant in 2021. Since then, multiple Omicron strains have emerged. In June and July 2022, a new subvariant of COVID19 called BA.5 has become prevalent. In Summer 2022, more than half of the cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. are predominantly the BA.5 variant.

Vega Tek Hub has provided this medical animation video presented on the attached YouTube link. You will see the symptoms of COVID-19 – BA.5 and how vaccination and personal hygiene can help patients.

The original Omicron variant was found to cause milder symptoms compared to the previous strain of the virus, called Delta. Omicron was first detected in Africa in November 2021. In December 2021 the first case of Omicron was diagnosed in the U.S. and very soon it became the predominant variant in the U.S. and in most other countries. Although the original Omicron was milder than many previous variants some people had to go to the hospital, and some died.

According to CDC omicron spreads much faster than the previous variant, and that includes the BA.5 variant which is thought to be even more transmissible. Blood studies from people with history of COVID infection and those who had been boosted and vaccinated, has shown a reduced ability to neutralize the BA.5 virus. Scientists are still studying this new variant, but based on the available data it seems that the symptoms BA.5 generally aren’t more serious than the previous variant.

Some of the symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, loss of energy and body aches, headaches, nausea and vomiting or diarrhea, loss of smell or taste. Some of the more serious warning signs of COVID-19 illness are having trouble breathing, skin or lips color changes because of low levels of oxygen, confusion, and inability to stay awake or loss of consciousness. Contact your medical provider if you experience symptoms that are concerning to you.

By now, scientists and doctors Know that usually the severity of COVID illness is less for patients who are vaccinated, those with history of previous infection, younger patients and those with good general health.

Many experts think that the Omicron variant is part of the progression of the virus, and it is also likely that we see new variants in future. The experts recommend that the best way to prevent new variants is to get vaccinated and get a booster shot. Mutation in the virus happens when the virus is transmitted from one person to another. With higher number of vaccinated people, the transmission of the disease will slow down and therefore the virus’s chance for mutation will be less.
